Saving energy by exterior thermal insulation
- A comfortable space combined with physical protection, enabled by exterior thermal insulation waterproofing
The interior thermal insulation method |
Advantages of exterior thermal insulation waterproofing |
| Conventional thermal insulation material is installed below the rooftop
concrete slab. Although the cost is low and air-conditioning works more
effectively, the slab is exposed to wide fluctuations in temperature. As
a result, the slab is prone to crack easily and existing cracks grow wider.
Local dew condensation occurs on metal parts such as hanger bolts. |
Because thermal insulation material is placed on the upper surface of the rooftop concrete slab, it protects the slab from solar heating and lessens changes in the slab’s temperature, thus minimizing its expansion and contraction. |
 |
 |
Actual measurement of the slab surface temperature
* The graphs show that the daily changes in the slab surface temperature are markedly smaller for the exterior thermal insulation than for interior thermal insulation.
Dyflex's exterior thermal insulation
Thermal insulation material + improved asphalt sheet, mechanically fixed sheet + rapid hardening-type urethane
 |
In Dyflex's exterior thermal insulation method, the thermal insulation
material and the improved asphalt sheet are fixed together by an anchor,
after which rapid hardening-type urethane is sprayed on the surface. This
can be done using a virtually dry method and can be applied on a base in
any condition. Therefore, anchored styrene foam, which has low absorbency
and maintains its thermal insulation character for a long period, can be
used in spite of it being exposed to the elements. Because rapid hardening-type
urethane, which shows good resistance to heat, covers the surface, the
durability is better than that of conventional exposed asphalt and urethane
foam, which tends to lose its thermal insulation properties over time. |
